It all began with a search. Over the years we’d enjoyed hiking, skiing, scuba diving, motor racing, Scottish country dancing, even flying light airplanes. Now we looked for an activity we could share and continue to pursue, well past retirement.
Travel is our great love. But travel as a pastime is expensive. A motor bike was suggested—and promptly vetoed by the designated pillion rider. Bicycles, then? Once we’d hit on the idea, we knew it was what we were looking for. It wouldn’t be eighty-kilometres-a-day, heads-down, eyes-fixed-on-the-front-wheel stuff, but it would be travel. It would be a leisurely, pleasantly energetic form of travel with time to explore and take in the scenery. And we could do it together—everything we wanted!
And so, for the past eighteen years we’ve toured independently throughout France and occasionally in Britain, living out of our panniers for weeks at a time. At home, we became familiar with the byways of the Fraser Valley and Washington state. We began to compile a library of rides, researching local history along the way, noting the best routes and taking photographs. Soon, Easy Cycling was born - in just the same way that Easy Hiking had come into being many years earlier. It isn’t over yet—there’s nothing we like better than being en velo.
