Douglas & McIntyre began as the original imprint of the D&M Publishers, founded by Jim Douglas and Scott McIntyre.
Douglas & McIntyre began publishing in the autumn of 1971 as a trade publisher deeply rooted in the culture of Pacific Northwest, but with a mandate to publish nationally and internationally. Since its inception, the house has published intelligent, beautifully designed books exploring important issues. In February 2013, the Douglas & McIntyre imprint was purchased by Howard and Mary White, the owners of Harbour Publishing. The imprint now lives on as Douglas and McIntyre (2013) Ltd.
Douglas & McIntyre publishes around 35 non-fiction books a year while maintaining a distinguished literary fiction list. D&M is the preeminent publisher of books about current affairs, politics, art and architecture, First Nations culture, food and wine, and Canadian culture.
