Art Gallery of Nova ScotiaWith a history dating to 1908, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia acts as a gateway for the visual arts in Atlantic Canada by bringing the art of the world to Nova Scotia and the art of Nova Scotia to the world. It is committed to this mission as an agency of the Province of Nova Scotia and one of the premier arts institutions in Canada. The Gallery is responsible for acquiring, preserving and exhibiting works of art, and for providing education in the visual arts. Abstract Painting in Canada is a recent collaboration with the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Art Gallery of OntarioFounded in 1900 by a group of private citizens as the Art Museum of Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is now the 10th largest art museum in North America, with a physical facility of 486,000 square feet. The AGO currently has more than 40,000 works in its collection, spanning 100 AD to present day. The collection includes pivotal works by Cornelius Krieghoff, Lucius O’Brien, James Wilson Morrice, Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, David Milne, Emily Carr and Paul-Emile Borduas. Museum of Canadian CivilizationAs the national museum of human history, the Canadian Museum of Civilization is committed to fostering in all Canadians a sense of their common identity and their shared past. At the same time, it hopes to promote understanding between the various cultural groups that are part of Canadian society. Douglas & McIntyre and the Museum of Canadian Civilization pursue these goals together through books like Recording Their Story. National Gallery of CanadaEstablished in 1880, The National Gallery of Canada holds its collections of art in trust for all Canadians. The mandate of the National gallery, as set out in the 1990 Museums Act is: to develop, maintain and make known, throughout Canada and internationally, a national collection of works of art, historic and contemporary, with special but not exclusive reference to Canada; and to further knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of art in general among all Canadians.
