Eric Enno Tamm knew he had problems from the beginning. With access denied to China, he nonetheless set out to retrace Baron Carl Gustav Mannerheim's footsteps from Russia to China a century before, and encountered more than just this first obstacle along the way. He chronicles both his journey and Mannerheim's in his new book The Horse That Leaps through Clouds - one that Wade Davis says "reveals him to be at once an intrepid adventurer, fine writer, and discerning historian."
