Submission Guidelines

Types of Submissions We Accept

Please note that while we do accept unsolicited submissions, we will only accept submissions that meet the requirements below.

Currently, we only consider submissions in the following categories:

• Arts and Ideas
• Biography (of famous people only)
• Canadiana
• Children’s Picture Books (in the areas of natural history, ecology and the environment only)
• Cookbooks
• Cultural Studies (including Native Studies)
• Current Affairs
• Environmental Issues
• First Nations Studies
• General Non-Fiction (excluding personal and family memoirs)
• Health
• History
• Literary Fiction (excluding the categories mentioned below)
• Nature
• Photography
• Political Issues
• Popular Culture
• Science
• Social Issues
• Sports & Recreation
• Travel

How to Submit a Non-Fiction Book Proposal

If you have read our guidelines and feel your project is a good match for our publishing programs, please download our Submission Cover Sheet and include the following materials with your submission:

Submission Cover Sheet

• A cover letter with a synopsis of your project, including any writing/life experience that you feel is pertinent to your project.
• A short, annotated outline describing your project.
• A sample chapter of your project. (Sending a query letter without a sample of your writing is not recommended.)
• If your project is highly visual, you may include sample copies of your photographs or artwork. However, please do not send originals.
• A self addressed, stamped envelope for reply. Please note that because of the great number of submissions that we receive, we do not send notifications of receipt.

How to Submit Fiction Book Proposals

If you have read our guidelines and feel your project is a good match for our publishing programs, please download our Submission Cover Sheet and include the following materials with your submission:

Submission Cover Sheet

• A cover letter briefly indicating title, genre (ie. story collection or novel), your name, address and contact information, as well as relevant writing experience.
• Sample writing – Novel: First 50 pages. Story collection: 2 or 3 stories.
• Publishing CV
• A self addressed, stamped envelope for reply. Please note that because of the great number of submissions that we receive, we do not send notifications of receipt.
